Fresh New Music -- Summer Camp



Today's featured band is London's Summer Camp, an indie synthpop band that's just dropped a preview of a track from their upcoming summer album. The track, I Want You, is a retro-80's track that lends itself to the inevitable DJ remix version, and will be the hit of the indie summer.

 

The second track is "Ghost Train", the single from their 2010 album Young.


I'm looking forward to hearing the rest of the album when it's released later this summer. In the meantime, Summer Camp will be making their stateside debut at the Mercury Lounge in New York on Wednesday at 7:30 and around Austin during SXSW. Young is available from Moshi Moshi Records and at Amazon and iTunes.

Today's Featured Band -- Team Genius


Today's featured band is Brooklyn's Team Genius, an eight-piece band that's taking Arcade Fire's gloomy sound and making it fun and upbeat.


The featured track is "Making Myths," the theme song for the Lovely Hearts Club, the official blog of Paper Garden Records and will be on Team Genius' upcoming summer album. It starts softly and builds to a crescendo chorus that you don't expect and then fills in with an excellent jangly guitar that complements the vocals and horns.

 

Team Genius' 2008 self-titled album is available from Amazon and the band (check back for the working link). They will be appearing at SXSW and in New York in March (click here for dates and venues) and the Lovely Hearts Club SXSW Showcase on Friday, March 18th at Uncorked (900 East 7th Street, Austin, Texas) at 8pm. I'm looking forward to catching them on their next visit to Philadelphia.

New Music Sunday -- The Flaming Lips Cover of Kylie Minogue


After scouring the NME and The Sunday Times I didn't find anything that really caught my eye this week so I'm bringing my readers a cover song. I saw this at Paste Magazine's site and decided that the world couldn't live without seeing this, The Flaming Lips covering the Kylie Minogue dancehall favorite, "Can't Get You Out of My Head."

Enjoy and hopefully next week I'll find some new music to share. SXSW starts in Austin, TX on March 12, so there will lots of new bands to check out and I'm sure that a couple of them will be featured on New Music Sunday.
